Magnesium and Sleep: The Case for Evening Dosing

OmniVita Wellness

Why most of our human customers take Intact Digest™ and Intact Endurance™ in the evening — what the magnesium dose is built to support, and what to expect in your first week.

Start with the dose.

Per the published mineral assay (Certificate of Analysis), one ¾-teaspoon serving of Intact Digest™ or Intact Endurance™ delivers approximately 360 mg of elemental magnesium. That's a notable number, because the FDA's Reference Daily Intake (RDI) for magnesium for adults is 420 mg — meaning a single ¾-tsp serving covers roughly the full adult daily intake in one dose.

Most multivitamins deliver 50 to 100 mg of magnesium per serving. Most magnesium-specific supplements are in the 200 to 400 mg range. Intact Digest™ sits in the upper end of that range as a single ingredient delivery, alongside the rest of the ionic mineral panel.

Why the body wants magnesium in the evening.

Magnesium plays a role in over 300 enzymatic reactions across the body. The two roles most relevant to sleep:

  1. Muscle relaxation. Calcium causes muscles to contract; magnesium helps them relax. The ratio between the two matters for muscle tone overnight. Magnesium intake is widely recognized in published research for supporting normal muscle relaxation, which is why "I sleep better" is one of the most consistent customer comments we hear in the first week.
  2. Nervous system regulation. Magnesium is involved in the production and regulation of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), the body's primary calming neurotransmitter. GABA activity is part of the system that helps the body wind down at night.

This is structure/function-level language. We are not claiming Intact Digest™ or Intact Endurance™ treat insomnia, magnesium deficiency, or any other condition. We are describing what magnesium intake at this dose is widely recognized to support in published research.

The evening protocol.

Most of our human customers take their dose roughly 30 to 60 minutes before bed. Here's the protocol:

  1. Pour ¾ teaspoon into 2 to 3 oz of juice (apple, grape, orange, or grapefruit work well) or a small splash of water.
  2. Stir briefly. The product mixes cleanly without shaking.
  3. Drink it.
  4. That's it.

You can also sip across the day if that fits your routine better — 20 drops in 20 oz of water, sipped through the afternoon for steady hydration. But the concentrated evening dose is what most customers settle into after the first week.

What to expect in your first week.

Honest preview, because most supplement brands hide this:

  • Days 1-3: more frequent bathroom trips than normal. This settles to a regular rhythm within a few days. Larger bowel movements at first, never out of control. (This is magnesium's other well-known property — at higher doses it acts as a mild osmotic. The body adjusts.)
  • Days 1-7: reduced muscle cramping, especially overnight. Most people notice this within the first few days, particularly if they've been training hard or under high stress recently.
  • Days 1-7: changes in body odor and urine odor (a sign of the body clearing ammonia and waste more efficiently). Normal. Settles quickly.
  • Week 1-2: sleep quality improvements become more consistent. Customers report falling asleep faster, fewer overnight awakenings, and feeling more recovered in the morning.
  • Beyond week 2: the noticeable effects fade into a steady, calmer baseline. You stop thinking about it. If you stop taking it and notice the absence, that's also data.

Why we don't just sell a magnesium pill.

Fair question. The simple answer: magnesium alone, even at 360 mg, isn't the whole picture for sleep, muscle relaxation, or daily recovery.

The body uses magnesium alongside the rest of the ionic mineral panel — potassium for nerve signaling, calcium for the contraction-relaxation cycle, sodium for fluid balance. Delivering magnesium in isolation forces the body to balance it against whatever the rest of your daily intake looks like, which varies day to day.

Intact Digest™ and Intact Endurance™ deliver magnesium alongside the full ionic mineral panel from a single seawater source — meaning the ratios are pre-balanced and the body doesn't have to do the rebalancing work itself. That's part of why customers describe the effect as "smoother" than what they remember from magnesium-only supplements.

For athletes specifically.

If you train hard — 4+ days a week, real intensity — your magnesium turnover is higher than baseline. Heavy sweating depletes magnesium and the rest of the electrolyte panel. Sleep is where most of the rebuild from a hard training day actually happens, and magnesium intake supports that rebuild.

This is the case for Intact Endurance™ specifically. Same ¾-tsp evening dose. Same ~360 mg magnesium. Recovery-focused mineral profile. Most of our athlete customers report the next session "feels like the last one didn't dig a hole" — that's the goal.

Who should not take this in the evening.

If you have a kidney condition, you take medications that interact with magnesium (some diuretics, some heart medications, some antibiotics), or you are pregnant or nursing, talk to your healthcare provider before starting. The interaction risk with most medications is low, but the conversation with your doctor or pharmacist is worth having.

For everyone else: try the evening dose for a week. See what happens.
